Irvine Contractors was formed in 1984 and from modest beginnings as a small joinery business the company has risen admirably to become one of Shetland's leading construction companies with a reputation for high quality work and the ability to meet clients' requirements without creating problems. In 2002 Irvine Contractors became a limited company and currently employ approximately 50 employees between office and construction staff. Responsible for all Construction and Health and Safety matters and Quality Assurance within the company.

Mr Leslie Irvine is currently Vice President of the Shetland Builders & Allied Trades Association affiliated to the Federation of Master Builders and is also a member of the CITB steering group.

Mr Leslie Irvine also wholly owns Lerwick Building Centre Ltd: a builders merchant, kitchen and bathroom supplier, furniture warehouse and plant hire company.

It is our policy to act responsible in minimising the impact of the company's activities on the environment and to this end we are in the process of implementing an environmental management system.

Irvine Contractors Ltd is committed to achieving the highest possible standards in all its business activities. To achieve this, the company is fully committed to promoting and carrying out environmentally friendly work practices minimising potentially harmful effects on the environment and contributing to sustainable development through balancing its business aims with environmental considerations.

Irvine Contractors Ltd shall:

  • Ensure compliance with all statutory requirements in relation to Environmental law.
  • Provide appropriate information, instruction, training and supervision to enable all work that is carried out protects the environment from harm.
  • Maintain plant and machinery to the highest standard to ensure a minimal risk to the environment.
  • Recycle all materials where possible to enhance the environment.
  • Maintain a good relationship with the Environment Agency and other agencies that are associated with protecting the environment.
  • Install working systems that feature good environmental practice, which also allows for changing environmental conditions.
  • Maintain a dynamic Environmental Policy that complies with all Environmental Law, Codes of Good Practice and promotes the Environment.

It is the responsibility of all Irvine Contractors Ltd employees to support and apply those sections of the company environmental policy and procedures that relate to their activities.
